200 sickened from New Mexico hazardous materials release

SANTA TERESA, N.M. – Authorities in southern New Mexico say a hazardous materials release has sickened some 200 people in the Santa Teresa
area near the Mexican border.
A mandatory evacuation is under way for two miles around the Dona Ana County Industrial Park and the port of entry south of Las Cruces.
Officials say 200 people are in triage for symptoms of light-headedness, nausea and dizziness, but no serious injuries have been reported, and no one has been sent to the hospital.
The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority has activated a system to alert people in nearby homes and businesses to stay indoors, seal all doors and windows and turn off air conditioning and heating systems that bring in outside air.
Authorities are still investigating what material has been released and from where.
