Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention, a video aired that claimed “government is the only thing we all belong to,” sparking an outrage among conservatives who quickly argued the opposite — that the government belongs to the American people. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney also seized the opportunity to rally his base and tweeted Tuesday: “We don’t belong to government, the government belongs to us.”
And while the Obama campaign moved quickly to distance itself from the video and the statement, there are apparently plenty of attendees at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte who are thrilled to know they “belong to the government.”
Revealing Politics conducted a simple survey of several DNC attendees, asking one question: “How does it feel to belong to the government?” Completely oblivious that they were being set up, they answered honestly, revealing how differently the nation’s two parties view the role of government. Needless to say, absolute hilarity ensued — for conservatives anyway.
